A Time to Be Apostles
Prayer for Peace, by Pope John Paul II

A Time to Be Apostles

Dear Friends,

It is in troubled times that saints are made...

After last week's tragedy Sunday Masses have been packed, Confession lines are longer, "God Bless America" is being played on the radio, and there's a general feeling of weakness and neediness that is turning people to God. This is a perfect time for us to be Apostles - to witness to our friends and family members about Christ and the hope that He brings in eternal life.

Like many of you, this whole national crisis really frightens me, but it also put things in perspective. It is during times like this that we ask ourselves:

Am I living as I should be?

If I died now, would I be proud of who I am?

What am I here for anyways?

So, lets get on our knees and do some overtime. Let's pray for our nation and all those that are suffering and let's ask Jesus to show us how we can bring the healing balm of His truth to anyone that might have been shaken up by this whole ordeal - anyone that might be reevaluating his life. You may not be a paramedic or a firefighter, but you can take that role spiritually. We have what the world needs... and that's our faith in Jesus Christ and His most awesome Holy Catholic Church. Invite people to come to Mass with you, offer to pray with someone who's hurting or confused, give someone a Rosary and teach them how to pray it, and try to really live the life so they can see in you an example of how they can have hope and freedom in Christ.

Jesus really needs us now. Let's answer the call!

Until next month, I remain...

Your Eucharist loving, Blessed Mother petitioning, rockin' Catholic Church obeying, Pope John Paul II devotee and fellow sinner in need of God's grace and mercy,

A Prayer for Peace

O God, Creator of the universe, who extends your paternal concern over every creature and guides the events of history to the goal of salvation, we acknowledge your fatherly love when you break the resistance of mankind and, in a world torn by strife and discord, you make us ready for reconciliation. Renew for us the wonders of your mercy: send forth your Spirit that He may work in the intimacy of hearts, that enemies may begin to dialogue, that adversaries may shake hands and peoples may encounter one another in harmony. May all commit themselves to the sincere search for true peace which will extinguish all arguments, for charity which overcomes hatred, for patience which disarms revenge.

- Pope John Paul II
